The history of the SeeschlösschenFrom its beginnings in 1907 to the present day

It all began in 1907, when Heinrich W. von Oven and his wife Louise acquired the Hotel Fortuna – today's Landhaus. With this step, they laid the foundation for a long family tradition in Timmendorfer Strand.
Just one year later, in 1908, the Seeschlösschen was built opposite on the beach promenade – initially as a café and restaurant. The establishment's reputation grew rapidly: a residential building, a casino with performances by well-known bands and artists, and the legendary Trocadero bar soon made the Seeschlösschen famous far beyond the borders of Lübeck Bay.
In 1939, history took a new turn: Heinz von Oven's son took over the Seeschlösschen – but the outbreak of war changed everything. The house was used by the Wehrmacht, while the family remained in their home.

At the end of the war, the Seeschlösschen was initially confiscated by the British occupying forces. However, Heinz von Oven returned in 1946, and just one year later, the café and restaurant were back in full swing. Step by step, the focus shifted to expanding the hotel.
In 1952 and 1956, the first guest rooms were built – a milestone in the development of the modern hotel business. On the 50th anniversary in 1958, a spa treatment centre was opened, complemented by the first small seawater swimming pool on the Baltic Sea. This paved the way for year-round operation.

A severe fire in 1970 destroyed large parts of the building. But the will to rebuild was stronger: by 1972, the Seeschlösschen had reopened its doors in its current form.
In 1981, management was handed over to Rohlf von Oven's son and his wife Brigitte. Under their leadership, the hotel continued to develop, and in 1989, 15 additional single rooms were added – another step towards the future.

The 1990s marked the beginning of a new era. The Seeschlösschen became a wellness hotel on the Baltic Sea, with a spacious sauna area, massage and beauty treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and a fitness studio. The hotel thus combined tradition with the spirit of modern recreational culture.
In 2007, the third generation joined the family business. Andreas, Christian and Alexandra von Oven continued the story – with the aim of preserving the tried and tested while daring to try new things.

Following the sudden death of Rohlf von Oven in 2020, Brigitte von Oven and her daughter Alexandra von Oven-Batsch took over the management of the hotel. They are continuing the family tradition with great passion and dedication, carefully developing the Seeschlösschen in line with the wishes of modern guests.
A comprehensive modernisation will follow in 2022/2023: the spa area and kitchen will be redesigned to make the hotel fit for the future. The Seeschlösschen will thus remain what it has been for over 100 years – a place of hospitality, consistency and special memories on the Baltic Sea.
